:: the feather

"Hope" is the thing with feathers—
That perches in the soul—
And sings the tune without the words—
And never stops—at all—

- emily dickinson

i returned to the grove.

to walk the path.

and think.

be still.

my heart was heavy with things.

and i felt weighted in a balance between two things unseen.

i grappled for an answer.

for a sign.

and then i happened upon a feather.

i lifted it up.

all dirty, scraggly edged piece of it.

and twirled it by its quill.

they say to find a feather means you're on the right path.

i smiled.

an answer?

perhaps. or perhaps not.

but a calming reminder i am not alone.

  1. i have always absolutely delighted when finding a feather, but now that it means i'm on the right path? now i love it so much more! pretty, pretty pictures!

  2. Ah, I love this. I always remember learning that poem in high school, and have loved it ever since. Gorgeous photos :)

  3. "a calming reminder i am not alone"

that is just how finding a feather makes me feel too.

  4. my sweet darling found an enormous feather outside the treehouse last week, and this post makes me feel even more delight about that than i already did!
